Baseball Dessert

Third Grade Holidays Activities: Baseball Dessert

What You Need:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Red sprinkles
  • Ice cream scoop
  • Small round bowls
  • Oven and oven mitts
  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Butter knife

For the Bat and Glove Cookies:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1茶匙盐
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 6 Tbsp milk
  • Greased baking sheet

What You Do:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375° F, for the cookies. While it's preheating, have your child thoroughly mix the shortening and sugar.
  2. Next, add the eggs and beat well, and then add the vanilla. Have him slowly add in milk as you keep mixing.
  3. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough 1/8” thick on a lightly floured surface. Help him use a butter knife to carve out baseball glove and bat shapes, roughly equal in size.
  4. Then, bake the cookies at 375 degrees for 12 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  5. Now, invite him to use the scoop to create small, round, baseball-sized ice cream scoops. Place one scoop of ice cream into each bowl.
  6. Show your child how to use a measuring cup to press into the side of the baseball ice cream making a half-circle indentation. This line represents the red stitching on an actual baseball. Make another half-circle to mirror the first. If he's confused about what he's replicating, try searching for images of baseballs online, or looking at a real baseball.
  7. Let your child use the lines you have just created as guidelines for putting on red sprinkles. Carefully create red stitching out of the sprinkles.
  8. Finally, ask him to place a baseball bat cookie and a glove cookie into the bowl next to the baseball ice cream.
  9. Your sweet creation is complete! Serve the baseball dessert to Dad, for a sweet Father's Day treat!
