What is Fantasy?

Children may recognize many of their favorite titles and authors within the fantasy genre, but what is fantasy exactly? This three-page worksheet helps children better contextualize and understand this fiction genre by sharing passages from three well-known fantasy authors: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkein, and H.P. Lovecraft. Students then follow prompts to help them pinpoint elements of fantasy in what they have just read. When they're done, kids get creative by drawing and describing a mythical character of their own invention!
