Character Cubes

Kindergarten Arts & crafts Activities: Character Cubes

What You Need:

  • 4 cardboard milk cartons, 1/2 gallon, clean and dry
  • Paper, any color
  • Clear tape
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Clear Contact paper, or laminate sheets
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

What You Do:

  1. Help your child to cut two milk cartons in half. Discard the top portion of the cartons and fit one end into the other end to create a cube.
  2. Repeat the process with the other two milk cartons for the second cube.
  3. Measure the size of the sides of each cube. Help your child cut the paper down into 12 pieces, which will fit on each side of the cube.
  4. Tape the paper in place on the sides of the cubes.
  5. On the first die, have him draw six things that he finds interesting. It could be anything from dinosaurs and trucks to knights and math.
  6. For the second die, he should draw a picture of six different actions. Under each drawing, have him write what action the drawing depicts. Actions can range from swimming and pushing to flying and shopping.
  7. Laminate the cubes for longevity by covering them with clear contact paper or laminate sheets.
  8. Encourage your child to roll the dice and make up a story based on the drawings that land face-up. If it helps, he can begin his story with, "Once upon a time."
  9. Take turns with your child to embellish the story, rolling the dice each time, until your kid decides it's time to wrap the story up and figure out a fitting ending.

Helpful Tip: If you want, you can write down or tape-record this silly story so that it can be shared with others and enjoyed again and again!
