Veterans Day Card

Second Grade Arts & crafts Activities: Veterans Day Card

What You Need:

  • Construction paper
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Glitter
  • Pencil
  • Envelope
  • Address ofOperation Gratitude:
    Operation Gratitude
    ATTN: Letter Writing Program
    21100 Lassen Street
    Chatsworth, CA 91311-4278

What You Do:

  1. Have your child fold a sheet of construction paper in half twice to create a base for the card.
  2. Encourage them to design any patriotic image they like on the cover of the card. Some ideas they might consider are the American flag, an eagle, a soldier, or the outline of the United States. Have them use markers, construction paper, and glitter to design and decorate the card.
  3. Ask them to write a message inside the card that thanks a soldier for their hard work and bravery. Make sure they sign it with their name. If they would like a reply, they can include a small piece of papers with their return address written on it.
  4. If they'd like to turn this into a report, they can also ask questions inside of the card. Help them come up with a list of appropriate questions to ask a soldier. For example:
    1. What was the hardest part of your job?
    2. How heavy was the equipment you wore?
    3. What did you eat?
    4. How many years did you serve?
  5. Place the card in the envelope and help them address the card to Operation Gratitude. (See address under What You Need, above.)
