In this lesson, students will listen to a story and answer literacy questions throughout. They will then complete a math activity to go along with the story!
Students will be able to identify the beginning, middle and end of a story.
The adjustment to the whole group lesson is a modification to differentiate for children who are English learners.
EL adjustments
Introduction
(5 minutes)
Show students a hat. Ask them to think of another word for a hat. If students do not bring up "cap," then you should.
Ask students to see who wears caps at home.
Then, show the class the cover of Caps for Sale. Ask students if they have ever read this book.
Have students make predictions about what the book is about based on the cover.
Beginning
Provide students with vocabulary words in their home language (L1).
Define and model how to make a prediction using something familiar to the students (e.g., "I predict the weather will be hot because it is clear and sunny.").
Intermediate
Have students turn and talk to share their predictions with a partner using the sentence frame, "I predict __ ___ ___ ______ __ ___ ___ ______ will happen in the story."
